WEIGHING 101: WHATS THE RANGE AND DIVISION OF A SCALE?

Do you want to know more about weighing and the concepts around the theme? Find out what’s the range and the division of a scale (and know how to choose yours). On the Balanças Marques blog.

Weighing is not as simple as it may seem at first glance. In fact, there is a lot of technology, a lot of mechanics and many concepts involved in weighing equipment available on the market.

As is the case with range and division. Two terms whose definition it is important to know to choose well the scale for your business.

So, Balanças Marques team explains to you what they mean:

What’s the range of a scale?
Also known as capacity. The range tells you the maximum weight a scale can measure.

By placing a product with more weight than that achieved by the scale, it can, at the same time, compromise the result you will get, as well as the integrity of the load cell.

Which means that, when it comes to choosing your weighing equipment, you should consider the weight of the items you want to weigh.

What’s the division of a scale?
The division concerns how the balance measures weight and is directly related to precision. Refers to the smallest unit that can be displayed on the equipment display.

In practice, when your weighing equipment has a division of 10 grams, this means that it measures the weight every 10 grams.

This is also a factor to consider when choosing a scale. Depending on your business and the products you want to weigh, you can benefit from an instrument with more or less precision.

Imagine, for example, that you want to weigh small items, in which each gram counts: there you will, for sure, need a scale with more precision – and less division.

Now that you know a little more about weighing (and the range and division of a scale), are you still curious about it? Then explore the Balanças Marques blog and learn more. And of course, if you have any questions, contact us – we are always ready to help you.
