HOW TO DECIPHER THE ENIGMAS ON COMMERCIAL SCALES’ CATOLOGUES

We keep saying it and it’s quite true: nowadays, scales go much beyond weight. Which, on one hand, can mean more agility on the daily management of your retail business. But which, on the other hand, can mean that the choosing of a scale becomes a bit more complicated.

Yes, because catalogues are filled with enigmas (or, at least, technical concepts) that you have to decipher before deciding on the ideal scale for you.

Scales are no longer simple equipment with a viewer. They weigh, they register, they bill, they bring extras you can’t even begin to imagine. And that’s why, on catalogues, they are often described with technical concepts that may not be 100% understandable, especially if you are to this weighing world.

But fear not because we’re experts on the area and we’re here to help. Today is the day we unveil some of the “enigmas” that you come across with when looking at catalogues of the most modern and complete commercial scales laying around – our own, of course.

•    Why do I need a 2D scanner?
If you intend to use your new scale as a POS, you better include this extra on your purchase. A 2D scanner serves the purpose of reading the barcodes of your business’ products, so, if it comes with your weighing equipment, it makes it possible for you to do all your tasks at once, on the same location.

•    What is a RFID reader?
At first sight, this might seem a name of an alien technology, but this is actually an extra that can be quite useful in any retail business. RFID reader is nothing more nothing less than a device that uses radiofrequencies to read, for example, those client’s cards that are so in on so many supermarkets.

•    What is a wi-fi connection doing on a scale?
Every single day, we use this kind of connections, but the wi-fi’s task on a scale isn’t quite so obvious as it is on your smartphone. Our weighing equipment use it to connect among them and also with POS. Which means that, if you have more than one scale or more than one shop, this extra allows you to connect them in network, resulting in a practical and useful tool.

•    What can the SATA disk do?
This is one of those extras that are necessary only to more specific situations. SATA disk gives a bit more storage room for those who intend to use software that do not come with the equipment. Thus, you only need to include it if you want to use another billing program or other operative system.
